-11-7-96 – Cinderellas. Kathmandu, 7.15.

I’m slowly working out a general plan. The diary previous to this is on it’s way home now. The first one I’ve sent home for a long time. It’s good to have something on the way I guess.
I’ve planned the astrology. It’s quite good really. I go to pakistan and enter from there I can pick the date of my choice and even be in the hotel in Reshikesh. If I do the writing there then I can then pick another auspicious date to go up to Dharmasala and get it all typed up. Yeah, I think this is a good idea. a perfect opportunity to test the astrology. I have to stay in Lahore a long time but never mind. if I get the visa in 2 weeks I can go over and wait by the border.
Isn’t sizzling food awful. Even the pizzas in Nepal are sizzlers. They should cover them in fairylights and glowing plastic breasts just to make absolutely sure the whole restaurant is staring at you. Once I’ve ordered it there’s this dread anticipation while I’m

12-7-96 – Thorong La Restaurant. Thamel. Kathmandu. Nepal. 1.07pm. (L.T).

I’m just back from inmigration. The man asked to see my ticket out. He wasn’t pleased. I think I’ll definately have to go tuesday to leave wednesday. Ofcourse I couldn’t get a visa used today because my passport has to stay at immigration. I’ll have to get it Monday and God help me if there’s a problem because I won’t have any time to sort it out. I’ll have to rush to the travel agent for a ticket to Thailand because that’s the only place I can enter straight away. That’s a worst case scenario. I think it’s going to be O.K. but ofcourse I’ve left everything to the last minute.
In Inmigration I saw this Japanese with a drawing pad. it was so funny because it was full of tree drawings which I’ve just completed myself. Wierd. He was they happened to look through them all just at the counter.
3 weeks in Pakistan. nightmare. However, the dates are cool and it gives me time to plan things properly and do some Magick, also I’ll be able to find out about the Karalam highway. Yeah. I think this is a good idea.
And finally I can settle down in Reshikesh and write my book. I’ll do 3/4 months there I guess.
I think I’m going to be O.K. I’m going to try and get a walkman today, plus a couple of pen nibs & INK. I’ll go bank Mon and take enough to get me to Delhi, that’s good because I can stock up on books. maybe get some lateral thinking books that I wanted.
I must get my films developed and sent. I’ll put them in tommorow. I think a pakistan visa is going to be expensive.

I’m going to get a folder to send home my failed work and I think that’s about it. oh yes. I must do the letters.

Later 8.20 pm. Greenleaves.

The visa bothers me. I went to buy the walkman for 2200, no foreign currency. couldn’t buy it. When I went in I thought he said ‘RS1200’, that mistake was soon corrected. _crossed out: It comes without_ guarantee. I still like it though. Very much so. Maybe can change just ten pounds. I really want it but, I’m getting short now. I need to save.
I really want it. When I looked at it I fell in love with it. I just fell in love. I want it.
I will get it.
• It will be mine.
I want it.
I love it.
That’s it.
I went back to immigration today. It was shut. It means I have to get my passport Sun / Mon, probably the latter.

13 July 96. L- Restaurant. KMD- 10.45am.

I actually woke up today.

(DREAM)

A really long one about Sunthee. I woke up in a depressed state. Next I was with mother. All my things had been stolen. I felt my moneybelt and it was still on so that was O.K but then I realised my notebooks were missing so all my Star work was gone. Then I was in an airport and I found them.

(INTERPRETATION)

1st Part is just sentimentallities. I guess the other parts means me or the importance of the notebooks, which is absolutely true. I shall duplicate them in Delhi.

I’m in much trouble.
I went back to immigration and it was closed because it was raining. My passport will be there until Monday. I’ll have to get it, go to the bank, then Embassy, all before twelve. I guess if I don’t buy the walkman I could skip the bank until I get back, then buy all my stuff on Monday, which will undoubtedly be one hell of a day. I’ll have to do all the post out. Mind you, if I go on Monday (+ embassy) and didn’t have enough money I’d be in a hell of a mess. This is all turning extremely awkward. I’ll be pleased when I finally settle to write. If I enter India August then a 3 month visa would take me to November, when I should be thinking of leaving + it’s extendable to December. Yeah. I’d be out then. That’s a good idea. Also I’ll have ten stamps still by then so I could spend the time targetting smaller publishers? Also actually planning the novel properly. If I have to wait until september to get in India I’m in deep shit. I must quit worrying and then I can use magick. (Did I say ‘quit’? I’m losing my ?rebelhood ?Roots. I’m sure it’s going to be me.

Actually, I could use my expired passport to draw money tommorow?

Later. Restaurant – 7pm.

I’ve just slogged my guts out getting 10 publisher letters ready.

(CLAIRVOYANT VISION)

I was so lethargic earlier. I laid down and suddenly and vividly clairvoyantly saw a calender with OCTOBER on it. I then mentally asked what that meant and maybe I willed some wishful thinking but I saw a book. So that would possibly mean publication in October?
Cool man. Cool.
3 months to find out what the hell it meant.

14-7-96. Greenleaves- KMD. LT- 7:30pm.

Good day. I sent 10 letters, got a pen nib + ink, sent home the failed synopsis and thought a hell of alot about the book, realising I’m unlikely to finish it now, that is if I start right at the end of September, no, Aug Sorry. I must start in Delhi. On 21st July (other way around) so I can start then and have about 37 days. In delhi I reckon I could maybe complete 5 chapters, nearly 21 uninterrupted days in Pakistan = maybe 15 chapters, now I know I could never do it before but maybe somedays I could do two? So 20 as a basic, I have about a week from entering India to Rishikesh, so why not another 5 in Haridwar? thats 25. If I can double it in Pakistan with 5 free days I could maybe have 30 + 5 + 5 = 40, h hm perhaps 8 = 43, I could be finishing it in Rishikesh! It’s going to be hard, I’ll have to get it all planned on the train over, however, it could maybe be done, I think 20 is an absolute minimum, travelling will be a raw hassle but I can send back a duplicate with each move. Yeah. That would be good. It would certainly free my time, i- Rishikesh I mean.
A problem is the bank, if I use one at Nepal I might not be able to change the money back, which would mean getting stuck at Ghorakpur, I’ve got loads of receipts but I don’t think the bank would do it. I’ll need to find out. Maybe

my india book can tell me?
Also I needn’t go to Delhi Varanasi, I’ll go straight from Gharakpur on an evening train. Actually, the bank in immigration might sell me Indian Rupees, but I would have to be there before it closes which may be pretty difficult. It’s a hard time arising. Maybe I should go to the bank in Gharakpur. I really don’t know what’s best? I’ll look at my guide book for guidance, which is probably why it’s called a guide book.
The Karakam Rd. closes pretty soon, no, I don’t know when, it only opens in May, hopefully it’s over the in Feb!
Yeah it’s a hard time now. I must get on with things.
Maybe in Delhi I could manage ten chapters? If I get there very quickly.
I’m going to get the walkman tommorow.

Funnily enough I’ve got the same transit about to operate on I had when I met Mum but it’s retrograde and lasts two weeks, which is about as long as my Indian transit visa will take! I can’t believe it. It’s maddness. So supposedly it will be a busy time. It’s interesting (?) to see what it’s retrograde effect will be.
I’d feel better if I knew what the currency regulations were. Oh dear. I can maybe look in a Nepalese guidebook tonight, which should help.
Lastly, I’ve found an excellent handicraft shop, so I will visit it tommorow and set jewelry to go with the New (latest) Magick.
Yes, it’s all going to be good.
How many words can I write in 30 days on the road and between Embassy visits.

Deepshit.

I got the walkman. I asked a few places, all really dear. I went back to the one I went to it the first place, I asked in it was the best price + then agreed it. Eventually I got it for 1900 R N.
About the shit.
The individual at the Embassy was a complete dog. I only got ten days. I now have to leave Friday. A pakistan visa 2000. A letter of reccomdation from the Embassy is 1100 + I have to book, to stem and write a novel with insufficiet time would thus cost:-

Visa 2000
letter 1100
Indian Visa 2200
Re Entry to Pakistan
Visa 2000
letter 1100
China Visa 825
Total Cost * 9225

Sterling = £167.72.

Now if I have to meet Mother somewhere other than Nepal it would be so dear to fly out, I’d lose a heck of alot of money.
I’ve thought long + hard (10hrs) and have reluctantly decided to return to Thailand.
Besides, it’s only a one month visa to Pakistan which may not give me enough time to get any other visa.
It may be about right actually. The novel I could do, but not the way I wanted, if I did the synopsis now, the way I want, then they’re clear + I’m close to the art stuff I now need + by the time I return to west Asia I’d be ready with my notes to do a cracker novel, + I can long term the astrology properly. I think it will work. I

Know Thailand has a decadent edge but I don’t have to get involved with anything or anybody I don’t want to. I could just settle near a beach and relax. I think I could find a decent room and ofcourse id still be the for timing the astrology. Yeah, it’s a little more expensive, but I could economise.
My heart isn’t in this route, but it’s more a career path. I’d return to Nepal in Feb via Rangoon and Everything would be cool. Maybe as I meet Ma then I can do the indo-china bits I want so that’s out the way. Then 6 months till May/June Nepal, 6 India, till Jan 1st, 4 months in Nepal (New Calender Year) and transit to Pakistan when I shoot-through to _crossed out: Pakistan_ H.K. then I’m about Finished. Yeah a _crossed out: for_ _crossed out: brands_ third Novel in West Asia and I’m complete with everything I want to do. oh shit, my life is over then!
But I can tell Ma that after she leaves I just want to complete the trilogy in India

Asia and fly here (?) from Hong Kong to which I’ll travel to by land (Should just make it if Karakoram is open in May).

D – 20 July 96. L – Anoop Restaurant, Main Bazaar LT – 5.20 pm.

I’m still hesitating concerning the flight. Maybe I should stay & ponder. Maybe I should go to China now and fly back with a vietnam stop over? Time really does flounder. This is horrible. Maybe I’ll feel better once I’m actually committed to something. Maybe I should go within / use clairvoyance? I don’t really know. Yeah, that sounds a good idea. I will get the “OCTOBER” information.
I’ve got a cold which is making me lethargic and that will just help.
Enough. _crossed out: go to sleep_

Date: just 21 July 1996 – L – Anoop 24hr Restaurant, Main Bazaar. New Delhi. LT – 11:22 pm

I’m absolutely terrified of flying.

It’s nighttime now and I really have to make a decision. Well, it’s already made really. I guess I’m going to fly. Thing is, the waiter wants my order.
Good, Tomato Rice.
A weird thing happened today, well, two weird things.
One is I slept for an hour at noon. As I fell asleep I clairvoyantly saw a plane crash into the sea, and I felt a real stab of fear. I think my mind was playing out my fears (I hope).
Secondly I was walking in the outer circle of Connaught place. I saw a huge crow land above me and for some reason stopped, fearing Malice from it. I walked on and another crow swooped and hit me with full force in the neck. Weird. It occurred to me it may be a joke because I saw a group of men away laughing at me. Maybe it was trained in some way.
Then I got paranoid thinking it meant something about the flight. Goddam I’m scared.
I thought I could make a pact when I’m in the air, as in if we land O.K I’ll smoke my last cigarette on there. That would tie in with the magick. Yeah. my plans are certainly ready. for a year I’ve had no connection with the zodiac and suddenly all I read about is plane crashes. Worst still, I have to fly with the Russian Carrier.
I’m probably being stupid / silly. My chart shows nothing untoward other than [Symbol: circle with dot in center] [Symbol: opposition] [Symbol: Neptune trident] which could mean the sea but that’s the transit I saw Mum under. [Symbol: circle with dot in center] [Symbol: opposition] [Symbol: Pluto] is minor and I don’t have any transits for the overall year, though I never progressed the moon. Then again the day I fell down the stairs I think the was nothing in particular. No, I think the flight will be ok (despite my terror) and it’s a good opportunity to give up smoking and actualise a piece of magick.
I think I could do 2 sample of synopsis in Thailand or 2 weeks and the next two in Bali. Both courses would be a great chance to enter a significant dates and check my astrological theory. Also I could get stuff done in Bangkok, then wait out a week in Hat Yai, so I don’t have to spend too long in Bangkok, that way it won’t drag for me. I could do a ten last letter and then ask for new stamps out for when the synopsis are ready.
Yeah, so I’ve only seen a week in a shoebox in B.K + a week in a slum in Penang and the rest of the time I should be in nice places. Good.

Missing China is a hassle, but if I return to India to complete my synopsis trilogy and I could dump the typewriter & travel free, my work completed.

D – Wednesday 24th July 1996 L – Anoop 24hr Snack Bar LT – 12:12 pm. Main Bazaar, New Delhi.

I’m flying today. I’ve left the money a little tight but that’s O.K because it’s non-convertible.
At the moment I’m kind of looking forward to the flight, though if that will last when I am in the air I don’t know.
The broken walkman repaired itself and is now only tempermental rather than dysfunctional.
I’m mostly packed up. Camerawise everything looks cool.
At least I’ll be eating Thai food soon. Because I shall be a non-smoker I will be able to sit in KFC / McDonalds ect. all day, when in the past I would sit and run.
I think I should

Consider my vow.
Am I going to allow cigars for celebrations or tanguable achievements. There are other ways to celebrate. Maybe special food or something.
No, I really should do it properly. I’ll promise for a year, by then I’ll know if I want to allow cigars or not.
It’s ten years of habit I’ll be breaking but I don’t see any reason as to why I shouldn’t give up completely as an entire life vow.
After a few flights just think how strong I’ll be. All the things I will have given up.
Yeah, cigars would be a needless indulgence. I smoke my last two in BK, a celebration of my novel, or the end of it and at finding my direction in life. Then I be done completely. I must be strong and vow forever now. For this lifetime. I think it should start from when I wake up the day I’m in Bangkok to give me a day to settle in. That’s a good idea. Maybe I could breakfast in KSP? and smoke a cigar there, or is it too closed in. No. I don’t think it is. Maybe then, then off to city piller with a coke or something. I don’t actually remember where it is but I’ll look in a guidebook.
If I lie down now I might get three hours sleep. There isn’t really much else to say. God knows where I’ll stay in B.K. but I’ll be in Banglampoo for 5-6ish so atleast I have a fair chance of finding something reasonable + I can just take my washbag and put my other stuff in storage. I think that’s cool. I bet I’ll be in bed by 8/9. That’s good.
Apart from the quality of the room I guess it won’t be so bad. I will write. I think it will be A.O.K.
Yeah, I must lie down & pack the last of my things. I’m so tired. Good sigh. Hell, maybe I’ll even sleep on the plane.
There are still alot of good books there. I’ll have my alcohol. Best food in the world. Videos. Many nice things. I’ll be able to get the underwear I need + a new cloth for my cock. I ignore I’ll be cool. I’m out.
bye x (for now)

D- 27th July 1996. L- Beer Garden, Thanon Khao San Road, Bangkok, Thailand. L7 – 2:13 pm.
I made it. The flight was uneventful. Nothing happened at all. I got in and stayed one night at P.S. with the same arrogant boy and am now staying at Nat II.
I did infact keep my vow. It’s been a few days since I arrived. I’ve been fine and didn’t miss it at all, but last night I had a fever and vomitting. I think I’ll get over it. I’ve been a bit down also. I guess being back ect. I can’t see myself doing any work, but I’m sure I’m just withdrawing from Tabacco.
They’re playing Predator I here, it’s an uncut film. Nearly all films are uncut.

D. 29th July 1996. L- Friendly Restaurant, Khaosan. Thailand.
I’ve done absolutely nothing since I’ve been here. Going really down. I think Bangkok is one of those places where it seems as though everybody else is having fun. I must start drawing again today. Also the magick has slipped. I’ll feel better with even a small success. As it is I’m going real down.
I’ve got some transparency to pick up today which should make me feel better (??) I’m not in the mood for anything. I just want to lie down.
To hell with everything.
+ I can’t afford anything.
The walkman’s definitely broken so for sure I’m now not going to have the comfort of music.

Date: August 4th 1996 – L. Nat G.H. Restaurant – 5:27am Khao San Rd. Bangkok. Thailand.
(BK is so decadent nowadays)
Nat Restaurant is such a second home for me nowadays. It’s so typical of the places I love in Asia. I’ve never said a word to any of them, nor them me, but they feel like family! They probably don’t even notice me, there are Thais speaking together. By just coming here over 4 years and observing the family and it’s friends I feel a part of it.
Even the man who used to flirt with me in Hello restaurant is here now.
This old woman acts like Mother, occasionally when something happens, like an old character comes in ect, then she looks round at me and smiles. It’s such an accomodating family, and still the old monk from so long ago, comes here to be fed. I remember how he used to get given so much food he would beat the owner to some. Just about everyone at this 5am. place I know but I’ve never, over 4 years, said a word to them…. and I love them.
I am one weird motherfucker. Still, I like who I am and I ain’t gonna change me too drastically.
Enough.
I was thinking further about the magick, as in how the falling asleep/ waking up part is. Often (most times) upon awakening I’m overcome by a spastic feeling of depression. I really can’t explain it sufficent to say it’s like a negative manifestation. Like the positive I usually get before something occurs but not here. Mad unlike the negative feeling just before the last big manifestation, now a hell of a long time ago. I think my mind shows me it’s deepest workings and possibly any blockings ect. The nature of it is that life is so rough, well and at my worst and people are bad.
but Hell THERES ALWAYS A BRIGHT SIDE (JOKE)

D. 6 Aug 96. Weds. Kha San.

Still didn’t anyone going in the days. Well… it’s 12 days is it? About to be 13.
I’ve done absolutely no magick since I’ve been here, I’ll start it today.
The restaurants about to be empty.
Since I was in Australia I’ve been trying to find a song that I used to associate with Jamie well I found it yesterday, a cd shop here. It’s “creep” by Radiohead.
Anyway. Yesterday I was going around looking for a bottle of gas, well I ended up at the little shop by 100 Marco Polo and the man/woman remembered me which was nice. I walked home and saw CLIVE!
Weird man. Actually I think it was the day before yesterday. It was dead on midnight at the bottom of Khao San so you could look at it however you want. We were here together 10 months ago while I was still trying to get to Laos. He actually went there + Miam so he had a bit to say about that. The Visa is only 900 B. It was strange to have these two meetings so close to each other.
There’s supposed to be a bar sim here but I doubt they’re going to show it.
I’ll try and finish the astrology today (!) so I can at least move places, actually even if I don’t finish it I could still be [unreadable] going.

Date: 7th August 1996 L- Marco Polo Restaurant, Khao San Rd LT. 6.15 h generally, ?

This restaurant has really gone downhill, it now has 3 branches. I think it’s like a sprawling empire that inevitably spreads itself too thin and eventually falls apart. Ain’t even cheap.

DREAM
They found that life once existed on mars. I was in Nat. A man laughed, I thought what arrogance, then thought maybe they are an eon or ahead of me and laughing at the thought it doesn’t exist. We shouldn’t make things we can’t see, be they green men or hidden thoughts.

I feel bad. I’ve felt bad since I arrived here. Very bad. I have a deep feeling it’s my last S.E.A trip until I’ve ‘made’ it.
I think in India you can spend alot of time far removed from real life. It’s like a huge holiday from the world. All the repulsive excesses of modern society aren’t in India. They just aren’t there. There’s no repulsion. I don’t know, I can’t explain. It feels as though things are real there and here (SEA) I’m just dreaming.
Excuse me while I eat my Chilli Salad.
At least the food is good.

Date: 9th August 1996 – L – Grand Bear Garden, Khao Sarn Rd. Banglampoo. Thailand.

DREAM
I think it started with me looking at the script of something I had typed.
Then I was watching the police arrest various people but each of them escaped. Then I was in a town where all the people were dying from some strange disease. A woman who lived there was narrating. People tried to escape and prevented. One person who was like a guard had knives stuck all in his face. An Indian Sikh doctor came to town but didn’t have a clue as to what was going on. I hid in his surgery for a while. The woman who narrated said she knew she was trapped and couldn’t leave so got into a routine of being with her family all week and crying on Sundays. Lastly she said.
“But one day help did arrive, from where I didn’t expect it”.

NOTE: with the dream I woke up with a really mental insight into reality and boundaries being the density of molecules.

INTERPRETATION.
Weird. I think the disease may be just life. The Indian doctor may represent India (?) an eventless hope to the lost narration indicates the future.

I hate it here. I hate it so much. I want to go. I want to go. I don’t know where.
Blend drunk every day. Novel is calling me. Everyday, but the facts are not yet here. No. Must wait now.
I write in such a disjointed matter because I really don’t give a shit in hell whether anybody in the whole wide world has a fucking clue what I’m on about. I really don’t give a fuck because I can’t take being alone anymore. There’s no easy way to put it. I could dress it up but it wouldn’t change the fact. I don’t have anybody I’m close to because I’m not capable of knowing anybody. Like tonight when I saw June and we were both going to eat in the same place but we made excuses some could eat in seperate places because late talking about Gems the absolute fact of the matter is that we don’t really like each other. No. Yes. I Dunno.
That’s a bold statement.
Well here it. It’s the way I feel about everybody and how everybody feels about me. Who did I last have a conversation w. The physics teacher in Kathmandu? Before then Chris in BK I guess so. Then Junko?
Then Alisdair. Do I connect with people once a year Jesus. After all the the do I had out in Santa Claus.
Well, It’s been almost a year so now I’m about due for someone to say over ten words to me.

I’m moving. I just spent 5 hours as the only farang on a mini bus from Surithani, but at least I’m ‘ere now.
Strange to be here again, in Sugar Rock. It’s as good as I remember. As I recall I spent christmas day last but one here. Had the cashew nuts did I not?
I feel a bit better now I’m on the move. Actually I might go onto Bali. I think it will work out alot cheaper than Thailand + I could be there to finish the learning art stuff. I could get just the illustrations done when I return and then be in Thailand up until christmas when the weather is nice. I could get pasties (Steak) in Bali also.

Date: 27th August 1996 – L – Wisma Ikut Restaurant, Berastagi. Indonesia. LT – 4 pm.

I made it, though obviously not to Bali. With great difficulty I managed to leave Penang in the end to date. The trip was average I was beseeched by touts on the bus and due to their stupidness I couldn’t make it out of Medan. Yet in the evening I was walking along looking for at least a drink. A young man on a kejek following me and despite my evil stares and unbelievable rudeness they still wouldn’t go but eventually, after helping me unsuccessfully look for a bottle of spirit, I ended up paying for their drinks and swapping addresses with the female. At the exact moment the conversation so that was pretty interesting. It’s the longest conversation I’ve had since the physics teacher of Kathmandu six months ago. That’s sad I guess, but survive.
It turns out it will cost 200 000 to get to Bali and it’s a 4 day trip. It looks awful.
It feels like I’ve been using this book for a million years but I’ve just travelled hundreds of kilometers while I’ve had it so it’s not really old. It has important notes in so I must send it home soon.

Concerning the magick of tommorow.
It’s been well over a month since I did succeed (?) in giving up smoking. I made a vow and I absolutely kept it. That could work to my advantage. I really can’t imagine not breaking a vow. You see my practice has ceased. [ I asked for a beer a while ago and she said ‘Later’. God knows what that means. I’ll see later if I can get one, no two, So what if she’s wearing a walkman ] [ people keep coming, a bus must have come ] [ Got it! ] Right, Lets finish this book with my vow ideas.
[ She’s thought I’d said bill! ].
As I said, I live a life of fairly constant interruption, or so I move and stuff. During these frequent periods of movement the practice falls apart. A vow say, from now until Christmas could do some good for me. Maybe I could use it to learn Chinese also which could tie in with new Magick? Yes, a good idea.
I could take some kind of a vow up until christmas, that way there’s plenty of time for manifestation and I won’t be strapped for life. I must carry on with the ten as usual but will emphasise the

parts. One is the book, the other is adventure. ie I’m going to be back in Nepal writing around March then need adventures up until then. Maybe I could meet someone to help me learn Chinese? That would be a good idea.
What I had in mind was a daily routine of doing something. Now I have to start getting clairvoyant pictures for the book or clair-voyance ready so it could tie in with that. I think it would be interesting especially if my art training has finished.

[The telephone ringing & she can’t hear it because of her headphones… should I say something].
Ofcourse I still fall asleep saying the mantra. I restart the usual pep talk over the ten images I want and then a general talk, ending with the mantra + visualisation. Now that’s what I should be doing but don’t always, the problem beeing I just fall asleep/don’t prime myself when I get in bed.
I think in the daytime ie I do a seperate session, say just relax limb by limb, visualise + speak and then end it with clairvoyance and write down the images

seen afterwards in my notebook to be drawn up later. Also I could write the cards at these session a ready to be put by the bed that evening and burnt the following morning. I could keep it in my diary. Now I could make a vow to complete that allows excuse to sickness and is a six day a week. I vow until New Year to continue and will have achieved by then.
Considering the book (novel) of all the letters I’ve sent out nobody has written asking to see it. That didn’t go well! However I still have 20

stamps and will be able to send another 10 before I leave here. Also I’ve got 10 good pictures. Even if everybody says no, the magick will work. So with the synopsis, I can write letters about them but I think needn’t have them typed up because I’ll mention that that will be done if necessary on acceptance.
With the new (!) magick even if the evening practice falls apart (unlikely) at least a good part will have happened.
Think maybe I need a new central affirmation?
Oh before the diary closes I must just say, the day I left

Bangkok I saw a man in the street I met 2 years ago on the way to Ching Mai. Wierd.
Back to the magick. So basically I will still go for the same 10, and will concentrate on the double grab of book & adventure by christmas. I think maybe settle down + write with someone would be nice but then that would be in India. Maybe until then just short things? We’re talking month left in SEA. so there’s plenty of time for everything Yes. I think that’s perfect. But I’ll also carry on the story

up until I finish all the seven synopsi + 3 Good Fiction. Sell the rights. I’ll do that up until India. If I achieve all that while still abroad I have done well.
Ofcourse none of this will work without the correct mental attitude meaning walking round in it. Because when this is done I am pressure free at my peak. It’s hard to walk round happy but so it wasn’t be exactly possible to include that or no

because I can’t promise a certain mental state. If I vow now it’s like 5 months or something. What I could vow is that after each session I feel good + have achieved and act as if, maybe go for a walk + be mindful & happy as I do that. So I’d be feeling as if at least once a day and would carry that as far as long as possible, hopefully with it becoming a permanent state. Yes, so the routine is – this

① write card + bend + burn last card
② Relaxation
③ Visualise ten plus talk
④ Concentrate on last two
⑤ Hypnogogic / Clairvoyance
⑥ Draw
⑦ New card.

The vow will be to do it with less than 4 misses per lunar month. on the road it will be modified + all needed to do it will be kept seperate. Vow to do it daily until New Year when the entire procedure is reappraised.
Well, that’s about it. Still going strong. Until Nepal book

13 February 1996.

Dear Junko,
Hello, how are you? Well I hope. Again apologies for uncorrected mistakes.
I sent you off two birthday cards recently and I wrote a letter then but would you believe I forgot to include it?
Well anyway, I kept promising to write and give you my news properly, for so long, now I actually get around to it there isn’t really that much. Since I wrote last I flew to Delhi, I met an Isrealy man I knew from Thailand in the airport and we lived for a while together. Then I went to agra to see the Taj Mahal and stayed there for a couple of weeks, from there Varinesi where I borrowed the typewriter to complete the book ( first draft), then travelled 3000 km. to meet my parents in Goa, which was interesting. They brought me this typewriter that I’m using now. The camera and three lenses they brought were broken so they had to take it back so I’m still struggling with the broken one I had when I was with you. They did bring a flash that fits on it though so it’s not all bad.
There was a really big arguement the day I left them. My father was drunk and I lost the key to the room so I just left without saying goodbye. I feel really bad. Generally it was fun though, they said we’d meet up next year, maybe in s.e. asia. It depends where I am.
I’m enclosing some pictures, I’ll write on the back what they are. I’m sure they’re suitably boring for you, throw them away when you’ve looked at them.
To answer the letter in your card. No, I didn’t meet anybody to travel with. Concerning the thing you don’t think about, I knew there was something wrong anyway because of the dream, I can only say I was there weather you knew it or not. Also about the french film of the girl assassin, I saw it two or three times in Bangkok and I liked it also.
I’ve just written to a photography magazine to see if I can get some pictures published, I’ll let you know whatever happens. The second and final draft of my novel will be finished in March and hopefully in print this time next year. It’s my dream to send you a published book, especially as the process was initiated by you and the story is about you. Already there’s a chance a second newspaper in england wants to run a story just about my writing, I’ll let you know what happens and send you any print.
No, I don’t feel bad that I write more than you do. You told me you wouldn’t bother in the Japanese restaurant in Perth if you remember. You bought me beef rice because you were so happy as to cry when I said you didn’t have to if you didn’t want to. The pleasure in in the action of writing, not in the result of things recieved. My affections are for free and in a grasping world they’re probably the only free thing you ever gonna get! I’m happy with my cards and my memories.
Well that’s about it. I’d better get my head down and work. I hope whatever happened to you works itself out. Sitting in this neon lit room in Bangalore I’m alone in the world yet happy in my thoughts. Green kitchen is coming just fine. Don’t forget to see me in your shadows and follow your star.

From India with Love (I miss you).

Dear Pienta,
Hello, how are you? Well I hope. It’s certainly been a long time since we’ve communicated. As I remember the last time was in Malaysia when I wrote to you. I haven’t responded to your letter because I haven’t received it due to various problems. I’ll give you the news of what I’ve done since I wrote last.
I got my Indian visa in Malaysia then travelled up to Bangkok, from where I flew to Delhi. I lived with a Jewish boy for ten days, then he travelled on. I stayed in Delhi for around three weeks, then went onto Agra to see the Taj Mahal. I was there around a week, then went onto Varinesi, the most holy city of the Hindus. I stayed in a really good hotel where the owner lent me his typewriter. I stayed there for three months and wrote the first draft of my novel. While I was there my Mother told me she would be visiting Goa in the south 3000km. away and she wanted me to go and see her. I travelled down and we spent three weeks together. She brought me a typewriter of my own. After she left I went on to Bangalore where I finished my book and sent it back in the post to England.
It was around then an English newspaper wrote to me and said they wrer interested to publish a story about my trip and would I please write it for them, which I did.
It was also around then I noticed I’d accidentally overstayed my visa so it took me two weeks to extend it. I travelled onto Madras to discover They’d stamped the wrong date stamp in it. I went onto Calcutta where they refused to change it to the correct date so I was forced to come on to Nepal which is where I am now, in the capital, Katmandu.
I spoke to my family today and they told me they delivered my story together with pictures to the newspaper and that should be published next week. Also I got a letter from an agent in London and they said they want to look at my book, so it all looks very good. I’m stopping off here in Katmandu so I can concentrate on sending letters to publishers.
I was about to travel on to Tibet but I’m having alot of trouble getting the visa, it looks like I might have to go back to India and get a visa in Delhi, if I do go back it would give me the chance to write another book there. I’m not really sure what’s happening at the moment. I’ve only got one page left in my passport so I’ll have to stop somewhere to get another one.
I’ve got some more photographs of my family and I’ll send them if they fit in the envelope.
I would answer your letter but I can’t. It was forwarded onto me in Madras but I had so many visa problems I wasn’t able to wait for it. Now I can’t have it sent on until I know where I’m going. Sorry.
Apart from that not much has happened. I’ve started my writing business properly, note the headed paper and I try and write to six publishers a day. My book only arrived in England yesterday so my family haven’t read it yet. I’m looking forward to see if they like it.
That’s about it. Sorry for the bad typing and for not having had your letter yet but I’ll write as soon as I get it. It was lovely to hear from you again, I missed your letters so much and am anxious to know what happened. I hope you are happy and still miss you dearly. Until I receive your post,
With Love…

Dear M, Please forgive me using headed notepaper for this letter all the way through but I’m trying to save up this curse. I have far too much, it weighs a Kilo. Also I’m not trying to save ribbons plus it’s abjection and people might complain. It’s been awfully long I’ve just been doing Thomas’s birthchart and had to postpone it until I get an atlas to work out the longitude ect. I forgot I needed to know that. Do you remember that time Harvey Wigfall dropped a cannon-ball on my foot? I think you’d really like Nepal, you should see it. Lots of very good restaurants and the bookshops equal India, well, almost. There is even a sort of old occult bookshop. Down in the ‘old’ Li Masters and it’s an over-view of the new physics. It’s about Einstein and quantum ect. It’s really complicated but I’ll do my best to explain it all in a letter when I’ve finished taking notes. As I was reading it I realised new physics would be the essence of my next novel. To sum up new physics basically, it means when dealing with photons, which are the little specs in atoms, the laws of classical physics, such as gravity and chronological time, don’t apply. In sub-atomic physics atoms time travel, spontaneously come into existence and disappear. As these are the building blocks of everything we see around us it means that nothing exists at all. The quantum physics is Eastern Philosophy which is 4000 years old, quantum physics is since 1960! To sum it all up I met a Canadian Physics teacher in a restaurant recently. We talked for a while and I soon realised this degree holder taking the next generation was an expert in classical physics but… DIDN’T HAVE THE FIRST CLUE ABOUT QUANTUM! It’s frightening really when you consider he teaches the next generation. He mostly talked about the immigrants from Hong Kong. He told me most of their parents left them and went back to Hong Kong, so they’re mostly abandoned. The British should have given them passports.

Hopefully by now you will have read the book. I remember when I was about twelve and I brought home a plastic sword I made at school. The blade was an inch thick and you told me it was nice. I felt alot of arguing on my part for you to finally admit it was crap, which we all knew anyway but were only waiting for the confirmation. I think it’s going to be hard to get a distributed opinion concerning the work, though a pile of rejection letters should at least give me a hint. It contains reference & ornaments to all the things we talked about in Goa, but I’ll have to see how it does. I really can’t wait to write Goa Panda it. As for the next ‘masterpiece’… I’ve got a little notebook I keep with me all the time now. At the front I note down all my insights and thoughts about life, in the back I write down all the character and plot ideas I get. When the book is full I’m going to mix it all up with my notes about Physics! I think this will work. I notice there are a lot of books about science selling now. Quantum the ?Tao. It’s thought people are just realising that western logic has arrived at the same conclusions that the Eastern mystics arrived at 4000 years ago by intuition. Hell of a long time to be a long time than never! It’s going to be a better late until I start but I use the present period as research. Otherwise in Nepal there are a million books about Tantra, (Himalayan B-uddhism) and Tao (Chinese native religion) so maybe I’ll get into that and also I’m completely open to experience. I’ll just accept whatever comes and weave my web around it, yet like never loses its surprises, let go of assumption and never be disappointed!

I’ve got Stephen Kings second latest novel ‘Insomnia’. O.K. I get so tired of novels nowadays, it’s nice to read something I’m actually going to finish! I don’t think I’ve bought a new novel since I’ve been away. I’m thinking of going on a sight-seeing trip. There’s a Sizzling food here, it’s so embarrassing, they are too much of a good thing. The food itself is unbelievable, steak which is 5 worth dying for. They cost £1.50 in even the best restaurants and are always good. I think it’s the Tibetans have a reputation of the travellers Tibetans have very long. How are Geoff and Yasmine getting along nowadays? After not hearing about her I assume it’s not very good! I’ll enclose whatever receipts I have. I need to keep “currency exchange certificates” in order to accept so I can send them on separate to the actual bank. Good luck with the pub. Isn’t it strange how you three ended up in business together and how it all goes well… is it all Geoff’s idea? He was always looking for some kind of business opportunities, though let us not forget the Kussal water-filters. I think it’ll be easier drafting my new novel in pencil, but will include the cover because then I can tape it up, but while I’m drafting it I’ll be able to do it on the move, and also in dormitorys, where I

usually wouldn’t be able to use a typewriter. I could use an eraser to get the draft right. The astrology’s going well. I’ve worked out a brand new system of “electional Astrology” (my phrase!!) which charts the papers as all planets in a grid system and helps decide within 5 the best time to undertake various course of action, I think that’s another “embryo” book. I’ve got so many ideas now I am a writer after all. No matter what side-paths I go off in, I always come back to it. I can’t help it, it’s an incurable disease. Maybe it’s because I dislike people so much, literature is my expression. Like yesterday when I sat in “Garden Terrace” by 4 american’s, listening to their banal conversation concerning Varanasi, they obviously never learnt a thing there. My Consort is words, who needs someone to talk to when you have a typewriter? All conversation is void because it isn’t recorded for the benefit of all. If you have something worth saying… WRITE IT… and if not… get lost. It’s not drugs, sex or crime that threatens our society, but our tolerance of the third rate: have you read a newspaper recently? between the lines. We need a new breed of artists, not concerned with political (we are caucasian Arse kissing, in a new honesty for the new age. I intend to be the first artist that succeeded by the simply expedient of not lying. (Licking?) Honesty is the best policy and it begins in the mind. Why am I so intense? I’m sure I’ll be boring one day, maybe Geoff can give me lessons. Anyway, I’ll write then, miss you, keep well,

Dear J. Thurley,

Re: SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPT.

I am writing to enquire if you would be interested to consider
my manuscript ‘Apasia’ which I am about to finish here in India.

To give you a few details about myself: I left school seven years
ago, worked unsuccessfully as a writer for three years and then returned
to college to complete courses in English and photography. I left
England in February 1993 and worked in Thailand as an English teacher.
Since then I’ve worked and travelled through nine countries. Last
year in Perth, Australia I worked as a Journalist. I also take 35mm.
slides as I travel with a view to submit them to a picture library
when I return.

Very briefly, my 64,000 word manuscript is a story in the first
person about a woman who questions her existence after a strange meeting
during a business trip. It’s set in Asia where I’ve travelled for three
years. It’s humorous concerning one character but mostly centers
around her curious philosophical encounter and considers it in the
light of her family’s demise. In a readably and occasionally funny
narrative it considers Asian thought which I have now pursued for
five years.

The story of this manuscript and my travels have recently appeared
in my local paper and two more papers have requested further details
for articles of my efforts. By the time you read this it will hopefully
all be in print and would be submitted along with the manuscript and
S.A.E. on request.

My plans for the future are to write one more novel while I’m on
the road and then return to sort through my pictures and notes. I then
intend to write travel articles which I’ll illustrate with my own pictures. These will
be written together with further novels.

At the moment I’m living in India, but will soon be travelling through
Tibet and China with a general plan to improve my Mandarin and further
my knowledge of Buddism and Taoism.

Any reply sent to my home address will be answered by my brother
who looks after my affairs while I’m abroad. He will submit the manuscript/
sample chapters, synopsis, articles and S.A.E. as required and forward
any queries.

I hope that you will be able to consider my work and look forward
to your reply.

Yours sincerely,

J.S.Lipton.

Dear Mar,

Re: Book Finished.

Is anything ever right in India? Look at the watermark on the paper,
it’s the wrong way around. Well, I guess it’s still better than ordinary
paper. My new diary doesn’t have moon phases so when I finished the
manuscript tonight it was a surprise to look out the window and see a
full moon. It’s at the photocopiers now and I collect it tomorrow,
that’s a nerve-wracking night while I wait to see if they can get that
right. I had this strange feeling when I finished, like emptiness,
I think because it’s been my life and thoughts now for so long it
feels strange to be done with it, I suppose I’ve still got the letters,
I shall be glad to not be carrying it around at any rate.

I’ll be in Madras hopefully by the time you get this, I’m planning
to send the manuscript the same time so maybe you have that too by
now. I might not stay there, I might just shoot up to Nepal after collecting
visas, especially if there’s an embassy in West China because it gives
me an excuse to extend there. It’ll be nice to leave the south, I think
the north was more happening.

I think there must be a problem with leprosy here, there are so
many people sitting begging with their limbs falling off, like half
a foot hands ect. It’s a shame to see it when it’s easily treatable.

I’m hoping to interest the national newspapers like I did the local
one, now that really would be good publicity, though it isn’t very
likely so expect a few rejection letters. Hey, that watermark is really
bothering me now. I only noticed when I sat down to type this, that’s
300 letters I’ve got to write to use the damn stuff up.

When I corrected throught the last version of the book it only
took me an evening, I was worried it isn’t long enough, I’ve counted
the words though and it’s definitely average size.

I stitched my ripped shirt up lovely, I’ve washed it a few times
and it’s still holding together nicely.

Hey, you should see the notes I’m writing up now for the second
novel. I’m going to send you a letter too with notes on how to send it.
Do you think he’ll read it… Can he read?

Well anyway, it was just a quick note to say I was finished and
I’ll look forward to your comments on the work.

Hope you are well and better and improved. I’m going to settle
somewhere between here and Katmandu so I’ll write a lot then because I’m
going to be concentrating on letters.
Until then yours,

Dear Junko,

Hello, how are you? apologies for typing. I did write you
a letter when I sent your birthday cards but I forgot to put it in the envelope
and it was all glued up so I waited until now.
Do you like my headed notepaper? I’ve just smudged it, never mind. Today
I finished my novel. It’s at the photocopiers now and I’m collecting it tomorrow.
I got the notepaper printed so I can start sending off letters to publishers.
My article is in the newspaper in England at the moment, when I receive a
copy I’ll send it to you. I’m going to start writing to all the national
newspapers aswell to try and get some publicity for the book.
I kept on writing to you for so long saying I’d tell you my news and never
did, but you know most of it. Summerised, I left Thailand, lived with a
Jewish boy for ten days in Delhi, went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal for
a week, then went to Varanasi for three months where I wrote the novel,
travelled 3000 km. to see Mother which went well. The camera she brought was
broken but I got a typewriter at least. Then I came here to Bangalore where I
finished my script and will be sending it in two days. Next onto Madras for
Nepalese and Chinese Visa and possibly a new passport depending on how quick
they can issue it. I had alot of trouble recently when I noticed I’d overstayed
my visa without noticing but with a little begging and bribing I got a one
month extention. After that I’m hoping to travel the 12,000 km overland
trip to Hong Kong via Nepal, Tibet, Shanghai, Hong Kong. I may possibly
stop off in one of those places and write a second novel, I’ve been practicing
my Mandarin for eight months now so I may have an extended trip in China
to practice my language skills.
I’m enclosing a few pictures for your merriment. Oh yes, I don’t wear
a hat anymore, I gave it to Mother as a gift, though I do wear sunglasses.
To answer your letter, I knew something had happened to you when I had the
strange time out of my body, though I’m glad to hear you are happy generally.
The french film you mentioned about the assassin, I saw it a few times in Bangkok
I liked it too. My shoes are well, though a little shabby, I might buy some
in Madras.

I know I still owe you money but I haven’t been to a new country yet,
I’ll send you some Nepalese at some point. I’m looking forward to being out
of India. I’ve enjoyed it immensely but I think six months is enough, I’m
not going to have time to go to Bodhgaya now or the tea plantations but that’s
all for the next time I suppose. At least I got to see the south and that
was something I didn’t expect to do. When Mother comes on holiday next year
she’s had enough of India so we agreed to meet up again either in China,
Hong Kong or Vietnam, depending on where I am. She was ill recently with a
virus and went to hospital in an ambulance but the doctor said she’s alright
now, I do worry about her.
And how are you? still miss you. Most days I remember something we said
or did together, maybe because it was just a short time, if we lived together
for five years I’m sure I’d have huge gaps in my memory as it is I forget
nothing. All the things I formulated with you in Australia are coming together
now. I’m writing full time and I study Zen, which I first read in the book
you leant me. I don’t think you’ll ever comprehend the effect you had on me.
I’m well on the way to green kitchen. I hope to send you a
published novel. I can’t wait for you to read it. You are one of the characters.
Maybe in Shanghai I’ll settle down and write for a while, I’ve got the monk
friend now, maybe he can put me up? well, I doubt it but it’s always a thought.
Well I’d better go now, I’m staring into space I wonder if you ever look in the sky and
at my green table too empty. I wonder if you ever look in the sky and
when there’s just two stars I wonder if you see them too.
Miss you (so much). Yours…

Dear Jackie Highe,

Re: ARTICLE SUBMISSION.

I am writing to enquire if you would be interested to consider an article
concerning my travels.

I left England three years ago and after a stint teaching in Thailand
worked as a Journalist for ‘Nova’, western Australia’s largest selling alternative
newspaper. I think my story could possibly be of interest because until six
weeks before my departure from England I had spent four years trapped inside
my house suffering from agoraphobia. I conquered this completely with small
amounts of medication, large amounts of determination and a fortune on
psychology books. I plan to write an inspirational account of my story before
I leave Nepal.

If you are interested to see an article then any letter sent to me at the
address above would be forwarded by my sister. The work itself would unfortunately
take 4-6 weeks as ‘Bella’ is unavailable in Nepal and I would need to wait until
my family could forward a copy to me to understand the style.

I hope you are able to consider my story and I look forward to your
reply.

Yours sincerely,

J.S. Lipton.

Dear , It was lovely to have a chat with you yesterday, although it was short, due to poor line. voice makes my day. It is here 4.30 am. (yes early) the birds are singing the “Dawn chorus” and as I could not get back to sleep, I thought I would send a few words to you…
Well I had a very nice day yesterday for my Birthday. wishes from Geoff… a plant. Paul phoned would I be O.K to call at 12 noon, and him & Carly arrived with a bouquet of flowers, then your Mum came and it was lovely to hear you two chat together… its like I said to your Mum, it makes me realize how grown up you are, and full of confidence since lunchtime. Louise came and gave me her present i.e. a silver frame (size of a Post card) with a photo of Thomas sitting in a tree in her Mums garden with Geoff holding him it is his favourite place… But the pride & joy is your card it really has given me a lot of pleasure its been standing on the cup board since the day I recieved it, and at the end of the week it will go in its frame and be hung on the mantlepiece… then Yamin arrived and a box of chocolates & my favourite geranium for my garden. Sunday yesterday I was waching the sky when I happen to look up at 2 hot air balloons, and made me think of you, remember the photo’s you took of them when they where on the Race course… There isnt a day goes by without a thought of you, it reminds me of you, to remember the happy times, and not regret the things I should or should not have done,
I was quite upset that Geoff “H” was away, and you had to wait a week for your “FAX”, but there wasnt anything I could do about it… the good thing was you got two stones instead of one… by the way do you have to pay anything at your end for that?!! Just in case why we did not “FAX” on Brian “BROKER” that did not last long…
LOTS OF LOVE – MISS. YOU. ANN xxx
